Star Wars Battlefront Won't Have Skirmish Mode Anymore

EA looks to be making it up to the players with the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 this year. The devs are reportedly abandoning skirmish mode for the game in order to focus on a single-player campaign.

No More Skirmish

According to Game Fragger, Skirmish mode was only added into the game later after the release of Battlefront in order to make up for the lack of an offline single-player campaign. The mode was introduced so that players could play Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron offline with a team comprised of AI companions.

With the absence of skirmish, it could only mean that the developers are sticking to their word in putting a single-player campaign in the game. Star Wars Battlefront II's story had the players delving through the journal of a seasoned clone trooper as he transitioned from the clone wars to the galactic civil war. It's only a mystery what kind of story Battlefront 2 will have in store.

Single-Player And Multiple Eras

In a recent post from Twitter, EA Star Wars confirmed that Battlefront 2 will span multiple eras in the universe. Earlier reports were lead to believe that the game will focus on the new trilogy that was started out by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" back in 2015, but with the inclusion of multiple eras, players may be able to delve into a next-gen arena from the clone wars or more from the timeline of the original trilogy.

As for the single-player campaign, it's possible that Battlefront 2 will be focusing on the timeline of "The Force Awakens," having players run around Maz Kanata's forest planet or shoot down X-Wings on Starkiller Base. With the massive success of "Rogue One," DICE may even want to revisit Scarif and feature playable characters like Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) or K-2SO (Alan Tudyk). The game has been confirmed for a release in the holiday season, and an announcement is expected to come during EA Play on June 10-12.
