Diablo 4 Confirmed: Not Anytime Soon Though, Diablo 2 Lead Dev Tells Why

Diablo 4 is definitely coming out - eventually. Former Diablo 2 Lead Developer David Brevik shares his insight about Blizzard's plan for the Diablo franchise.

David Brevik YouTube Interview

YouTube presenter Rhykker recently conducted an interview with David Brevik. He was the lead developer for Diablo 2 and considered as one of the "fathers" of the franchise. He immediately confirmed that Blizzard will certainly release a fourth Diablo installment since the franchise has large income generating potentials.

Diablo 4 May Take Different Path

The former Blizzard developer though thinks that the company may take a different approach with Diablo 4. He opened up the possibility that the next game may feature an open world environment similar to Skyrim. Perhaps Brevik is hinting that the next Diablo installment has a new storyline.

Possible Diablo 4 Release Date

Unfortunately, Brevik refused to give a specific Diablo 4 release date. He only believes it won't be anytime soon. One reason is that Diablo 3 has yet to release the Necromancer pack. The developer also thinks that the upcoming DLC is the last major update although Blizzard may yet spring a surprise.

There is also the possibility that parent company Activision may pressure Blizzard to develop a Diablo 4 installment as soon as possible. Such pressures though will unlikely work, according to Brevik. For one, Blizzard has acquired the reputation of developing money making game franchise such as Overwatch and WoW. This also gives the company some autonomy on when to develop and release a new game

Future Of Diablo Franchise

Interestingly, the developer also mentioned his interest in coming back to Blizzard, preferably to work with the Diablo game again. There are concerns that the franchise has run its course that Blizzard will not developed a fourth one. Brevik disagrees and said that Diablo as a game series still has lot to offer to its fans.
