'The Big Bang Theory' Spin-off: CBS Introduces Young Sheldon

The CBS comedy series The Big Bang Theory is in the middle of its 10th season. Today, the network is trying to negotiate a deal to give Jim Parsons a two-season renewal of the popular show, and CBS CEO Les Moonves says that they are "on a two-yard line" with the deal. If it does not go well, fans will still be able to watch 'The Big Bang Theory', but not in the usual way.

Titled "Young Sheldon," the 30-minute comedy will center on the character's high school days in East Texas, with Parsons' story-telling as the adult Sheldon.

Prequel: Young Sheldon

The TV series will follow the character that Jim Parsons plays on The Big Bang Theory during his teenage years. However, the show will feature the 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper. The series will see the gifted, but uncooperative kid, dealing with his trials and misfortunes in high school at a young age, while living with his family in East Texas.

Jim Parsons had the idea of leading the series, but apparently, he can't play the lead role anymore. That duty will fall to Iain Armitage, who is currently seen on HBO's Big Little Lies. The young star is also known for being a peewee theater critic and has even appeared on red carpets, Broadway.

Prequel: Young Sheldon's Cast

As for the rest of the cast who will join Armitage in the show, Lance Barber will portray the role of Sheldon's father, George Cooper, who is an alcoholic. He won't be around Sheldon that much too. Raegan Revord will play the role of Sheldon's twin sister, Missy, and Montana Jordan as his older brother.

Furthermore, Sheldon's mother, Mary Cooper, is an Evangelical Christian devotee, it will be played by Zoe Perry, who happens to be the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who plays Sheldon's mother on The Big Bang Theory.

The show will be created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, the executive producers of "The Big Bang Theory".
