HTC U Ultra Is Great Only If You Prefer Form Over Function

When the HTC U Ultra was first announced, the market was generally optimistic about the company's newest flagship. It sports some impressive features, but it seems that the device is just good on paper. And while the device is beautiful despite its strong competitors, the actual functionality of the unit is generally disappointing.

As noted by Android Police, the HTC U Ultra has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and a relatively large 5.7 inch Quad HD LCD display. It also has 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM. Its rear camera is 12 megapixels and it also has an UltraPixel 16 megapixel front camera. The device also sports a USB TType-C port with Qualcomm Charge 3.0. The price is as premier as the specs, as a unit will cost a consumer back by around US$750. In most ways, it sounds like a stellar device.

However, that just is not the case. As the publication continued to point out, the HTC U Ultra does not have a waterproof feature, which has become a growing standard in flagship devices. The 3000 mAh battery is just too weak to power the large device. Moreover, the headphone jack is gone, a feature that is still quite controversial in the market.

The device is also arguably too big to be a comfortable handheld. Unlike units that are of the same size, the HTC U Ultra did not make up for it in terms of width. All in all, the unit measures some 162.41 x 79.79 x 7.99 mm and weighs about 170 grams. For most individuals, this would just be too much for a handheld.

As ZDNet explained, the HTC U Ultra is not a bad device, but in a market that is strictly competitive in terms of price and features, it just does not work well. The flagship is a great looking device and is available in a sapphire blue color that is equally eye catching and unique. However, there are other models available that simply offer more for a lower cost.
