Elon Musk Tells Truth About Tesla Model 3, Might Leave Buyers Disappointed

Elon Musk, CEO of the giant tech Tesla Inc., went straight to Twitter recently to reveal to his legions of loyal supporters a bunch of details about the new Tesla Model 3. He noted about the car's capabilities and features when it launches later this year. Except that he might have disappointed some buyers when he admits that the newest model does not offer anything new.

In explaining the car's position in the company's electric vehicle lineup, he gave special emphasis that Model 3 is not the successor of previous Teslas. Musk posted a video, explaining exactly how the Model 3 fits into the lineup. It's actually just a smaller, less capable sedan than the company's flagship Model S.

Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be new technology in Tesla Model 3. Buyers who are looking to use Tesla's Autopilot technology can expect to get a new car that should be at least as capable as the vehicles currently on the road. The self-driving software will be improved over time to the point that Model S/3/X will all be similar in technology performance, The Verge reported.

What buyers should look forward to is what Elon Musk hinted at last year when introducing the new model, including the new car's capabilities, which include at least 215 miles of range. If this is true, buyers can expect to get an electric car that is speedier than the Chevy Bolt. Musk implied in a response that the new Tesla will have a greater range than its closest competitor, the Bolt, which can go an EPA-estimated 238 miles on a full charge, the Forbes reported.

Musk also shares that the maximum battery pack size for the Model 3 will be 75 kWh. This is due to the car's shorter wheelbase than Tesla’s larger Model S and Model X cars. Tesla cars are known for gaining performance through greater discharge of batteries.
