Iconic Apple Store In San Francisco To Move To Swankier Neighborhood

Apple has submitted a plan to the city government of San Francisco to move its flagship store a few blocks from its current location to a bigger space on Union Square. The new retail store will be located at 300 Post Street and will replace the 9-year-old Apple store located at Stockton and Ellis Streets.

The new location was previously used by Levi's. It is 45 percent bigger than the existing Apple store in the City by the Bay. The new store will need a bigger workforce to operate and so Apple will field around 400 employees compared to the 350 workers at its current location.

The officials of the makers of iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and other products are closely working with the city government to implement green measures and make the establishment more energy efficient. They are hoping that the new store will be the hub for Apple customer service and shopping in the Bay Area.

Looking at design renderings online, the new store of the technology giant company will be rectangular in shape and appears to have two levels. The façade will be made of glass while the sides of the structure will be translucent. Apple has not revealed any timeline for the construction and opening of the new site.

"Apple's new store is quite simply incredible," said San Francisco Mayor Edward Lee in an interview with CaliforniaNewswire.

"San Francisco is the Innovation Capital of the World, and I can think of no better location for the world's most stunning Apple Store than right here in Union Square. I want to thank Apple for their investment in this City and continued commitment to growing jobs in San Francisco," he added.

The local government hopes that the new retail store of Apple will bring more foot traffic to the Union Square and eventually boost sales for the other brands around the area.

Apple submitted the plans for the new retail store to the San Francisco Planning Department.

The new flagship Apple store will join the lineup of two more shops in San Francisco that are located in Stonestown and Chestnut.

Apple has plans of moving or renovating 20 of its stores in the United States to make them larger and prepare for the expected traffic levels. The technology company is also planning to add 30 stores outside of the U.S.
