Microsoft Surface Pro Finally Unveiled, Find Out What's New

It's official! Microsoft has a new 2-in-1 laptop and it's not the Surface Pro 5. Instead, we have the Microsoft Surface Pro.

The new hybrid laptop/tablet from Microsoft looks a lot like its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4. The old one was a huge success since it was first made available on October 2015. It was so good that it remains popular today even though it has been begging for an update. Fans of the hybrid will get their wish as the new Surface Pro will come with some of the latest technologies and innovations.

The Verge got to talk with Microsoft chief of Surface Panos Panay who informed them that the new Surface Pro has around 800 new custom parts. The upcoming 2-in-1 device will be powered by Intel's 7th-generation Kaby Lake processor. The Core m3 and Core i5 versions will have a fan-less design.

The Surface Pro will supposedly last for around 13.5 hours on one charge. That figure is twice as much as what the Surface Pro 4 could offer. The extended battery life is made possible by the new processors and a better Windows 10 OS. Panay further explained that the Surface Pro will also have an integrated SSD on the motherboard.

According to LaptopMag, Microsoft's latest detachable flagship will come with 4GB to 16GB of RAM while one of the models will have 4G LTE. The new Surface Pro will have Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C ports. The Surface pro will only come in gray while the Surface Pen will have gray, black, cobalt blue and burgundy versions.

Microsoft is having an interesting take on the naming of its products lately. The company previously released the unimaginatively named Surface Laptop which is geared towards college students. Now, it has decided to let go of numbers and stick with the Surface Pro name. It's interesting to see if there will still be a Surface Pro 5 or if Microsoft is going on a different path from now on.

The Surface Pro starts at $799 and, as mentioned, can now be pre-ordered. The actual device will be shipped starting June 15.
