Most people who have been working with money for an extended period are used to counting large sums of cash by hand. Now, this process can be grueling and take up a lot of time to sort, organize, and count each bill by hand. So, you may be wondering if there is an easier way to count money than by hand.

Well, there is, and we are here to tell you about it.

Counting Money By Hand

There are a few ways to count money by hand. You can use the sort, organize, and add method. This method is where you sort each denomination into a stack of fifty. You must make sure that each bill is facing the same way for organizational purposes. Once you hit fifty bills for each denomination, you will wrap each stack in a rubber band. Now, if you have fifty five-dollar bills in a pile, this will be $250; if you have fifty ten-dollar bills in a stack, this will be $500, and so on. So, it makes it faster and easier to count each stack after you are done sorting the bills. Then, you can just add up all the stacks to get your total. Another way to count by hand is to fold your bills (all the same denomination) in half and take your thumb under the first bill, your pointer finger under the second, your middle finger under the third, your ring finger under the fourth, and your pinky finger under the fifth and count that way.  This technique will help you stay organized and increase speed.

These strategies will help you count money quickly by hand, but the best way and fastest way to count money is to use a money counter.

Counting Money Using a Machine

A money counting machine will be the best investment for a business that needs to count money quickly. Accubanker suggests buying a money counting machine that can distinguish different denominations. A quality machine will also sort your denominations for you. When your money counter has this ability, it makes counting money much faster because you do not have to sort the denominations like you would by hand.

A money counting machine also has a hopper capacity where you can hold two hundred or more bills at a time in the machine and count a thousand or more bills a minute. Which does mean that you will have to keep adding money to the device, but since it is being counted for you, it will still be quicker than counting by hand. As a bonus, some money counting machines can also detect counterfeits, which can help with efficiency due to your not needing to check every bill.

Sometimes bringing new technology into a business is better than doing it the old-fashioned way, especially if it makes everyone's lives easier.
