UK Google Play store now offering new Nexus 7 for £199/£239

The recently-launched refreshed version of the Nexus 7 is now officially available in the UK from the Google Play store at a price tag of £199/£239.

Google launched the refreshed version of the Nexus 7 on July 24 this year, with the tablet going up for sale in the U.S. on July 26. The slate started reaching customers via various retailers soon after its launch, but the Google Play store in the U.S. was the first to start selling the device. The Canadian Google Play store soon followed suite and now the new Nexus 7 is officially available in the UK as well.

Google is also sending out an email to customers in the UK who have signed up for updates indicating that the new Nexus 7 will be on sale at various UK retailers soon such as Amazon, Tesco, Argos and more.

The UK launch date of Aug. 28 is in line with the previous announcement made by the company.

Google Play store (UK) is offering the Wi-Fi only 16GB and 32GB versions of the new Nexus 7 for £199 and £239, respectively. There is no indication on when the LTE version of the tablet will be available via the Play Store.

The refreshed version of the Nexus 7 is a step up from the original Nexus 7. The tablet sports a 7-inch IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 323 pixels per inch (ppi). A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor along with 2GB of RAM power the tablet.

The new Nexus 7 also has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, which was missing from the original Nexus 7. The second-generation Nexus 7 is the first device to come pre-loaded with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system.

The tablet weighs 10.55 ounces and measures 7.87 x 4.49 x 0.34 inches.

The competition in the smaller tablet market has increased significantly from 2012. We will now have to wait and see if the new Nexus 7 is able to attract customers just like its predecessor.
