New Moto X now available from Verizon Wireless and Moto Maker – Pricing and options

U.S. customers interested in the new Motorola Moto X (2014) on Verizon Wireless can now purchase the device either from Big Red itself, or through Moto Maker.

The new Moto X comes as a real powerhouse compared to its name-sake predecessor, boasting notable improvements on all fronts. The original Moto X that launched last year came with mid-range specifications on board, but nonetheless drew plenty of attention due to its unprecedented and unparalleled customization options.

With the Moto X, Motorola wanted to give users the chance to have a truly personalized smartphone, instead of just choosing between a few color options or configurations. Through Moto Maker, users were able to choose between more than 2,000 possible combinations and design their Moto X to perfectly suit their tastes and preferences. The mid-range specifications, however, may have limited the phone's overall success.

With the second-generation Moto X, that is no longer the case. This year, Motorola has packed high-end specs onto its new Moto X while also retaining the high customization options, and the new iteration is definitely better in every department compared to its predecessor.

Verizon Wireless has now started selling the new Moto X on its website, offering the device for $99.99 when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement. It's worth pointing out, however, that pricing varies depending on color if you opt for other payment options.

The black version of the new Moto X, for instance, costs $24.99 per month with Verizon EDGE, or $499.99 outright. The exact same smartphone, but in a white paint job, costs $27.99 per month with Verizon EDGE, and $549.99 outright. Both of these models come with 16GB of internal storage capacity, so the only difference between them is color and pricing.

Interested customers who want a Moto X with more internal storage capacity or a customized exterior, meanwhile, can purchase their handset through Moto Maker at this link. The customization website was already live for a while, but now it also allows shoppers to design their new Moto X for Verizon Wireless.

Pricing with Moto Maker starts at $149.99 for 32GB Moto X models, and goes up if you choose to go for more premium wood or leather back plates.
