ZTE reveals Nubia Z9 series of bezel-free smartphones – Models and specs

Chinese smartphone maker ZTE has officially launched its latest Nubia Z9 smartphone in its home country, unveiling three high-end models.

The new ZTE Nubia Z9 Classic, Nubia Z9 Elite, and Nubia Z9 Exclusive made their debut only in China for now, boasting a bezel-free display, a sleek design, and high-end specs all around. The three models come with different memory and internal storage configurations. Another difference is that the ZTE Nubia Z9 Exclusive also features a fingerprint reader for extra security.

All three ZTE Nubia Z9 smartphones feature 5.2-inch IPS displays with full HD resolutions of 1920 x 1080 pixels at a pixel density of 424 ppi. The display looks like it goes from edge to edge due to its incredibly thin reflective bezel that measures just 0.8mm, and ZTE has also packed Frame Interactive Technology (FIT) that allows for various functionality on the edge(see image above). For instance, users will be able to unlock the smartphone by swiping along both sides, or launch the camera app when picking up the phone with both hands.

Under the hood, the ZTE Nubia Z9 series handsets pack a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor consisting of four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz, paired with Adreno 430 graphics. Other specs include a 16-megapixel Sony IMX234 Exmor RS rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 6P lens, and an 8-megapixel Sony IMX179 Exmor R BSI front shooter with an f/2.4 aperture and an 8-degree wide viewing angle. The ZTE Nubia Z9 further features a 2,900 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE, NFC, GPS, MHL 3.0, and USB OTG. All three models run Nubia UI 3.0 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and will be available in black and gold color options.

While the three smartphones have plenty of specifications in common, there are also notable differences between them. The ZTE Nubia Z9 Classic comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity, the Nubia Z9 Elite features 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Nubia Z9 Exclusive rocks the same 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage as the Elite version, while also boasting a TIO fingerprint scanner. It remains unclear for now whether the smartphones will feature microSD support or not.

As previously mentioned, ZTE unveiled its three Nubia Z9 bezel-free smartphones only in China for now, and the company has yet to offer any information regarding global availability.
