Buddy Pokemon is a fairly handy feature but there are important details in the app that you need to know before using it:
Buddy System
The buddy system allows the player to earn candies for a certain Pokemon by walking a certain distance.
This is a helpful feature especially when you don't have time to play while travelling or if you are in an area where Pokemons are very difficult to catch.
The Buddy System displays your Buddy Pokemon next to your trainer in the profile screen.
Assigning A Buddy Pokemon
Tap the photo of the trainer avatar and pick the Buddy option in the Menu screen. From there, you can choose a Pokemon from your collection as your buddy.
Distance Required Per Pokemon
Each Pokemon has a distinct distance benchmark to achieve in order to earn a candy.
A common Pokemon has shorter distance hallmarks and will therefore produce candies faster. A rare Pokemon has farther distance goals.
Choosing A Buddy Pokemon
The Buddy System allows you to choose any Pokemon as you wish, however, you can do this one at a time only. It is ideal to choose a Pokemon requiring candies and not the ones maxed out in power.
Reassigning A Buddy Pokemon
It is important that the Buddy Pokemon you will choose is the Pokemon you are willing to commit to. Changing Buddy Pokemons will loose the progress of the distance goals.
Evolving A Buddy Pokemon
Accumulating more candy will cause your Buddy Pokemon to insist evolution. Before doing so, ensure that your Buddy has completed its current distance goals.
Evolving your Buddy Pokemon while in the process of achieving its distance hallmark will lose its progress. The reason for this is because your Buddy Pokemon has now evolved into a different Pokemon.
Referencing Your Buddy Pokemon's Progress and Status
By going to the trainer screen and tapping your Buddy Pokemon, you will be able to access the progress of the distance incurred.
By swiping right at the lower half of the screen, you can also access your buddy's stats and number of candies.
Keep App Open
Buddy Pokemon only tracks distance when app is open - like egg hatching.
Pokemon GO has certainly bought you to a different dimension of the game. Through Buddy Pokemon, you do not only catch them all but you also have the opportunity to interact with them. For sure, Buddy Pokemon will take us to farther places as we await the evolution of this game in the coming days.
