The Ugliest Shoes Steps Up On the Runway

The grounds stood still as models strutted the catwalk neither in stilettos, platforms, nor flipflops- but in a pair of  reimagined dazzling pair of Crocs

Christoper Kane's Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Show showcased something that is in fact very homely to us all - Crocs.

Known for its chunky, plastic, and lightweight design, Crocs has made its debut many years ago. It has, since then, become a footwear that came in very handy and comfortable for everyone.

Kane's artistic eye however spotted something more than the shoes' pretty-ugly disposition.

In London Fashion Week 2016, Christopher Kane revamped Crocs into something new. He dressed it up by adding "precious mineral stones" and introducing a new marbled pattern to it.

Everyone was as bedazzled as the shoes itself.

Christpher Kane's collection didn't resemble at all the '40s style. The concept had deeper roots for Kane going up in a small Scottish town. This year, he celebrates his 10th year of shows in London Fashion Week.

"Look where we are - in the Tate gallery, this incredible building, which still has pock marks from the bombing in World War II," Christopher Kane said. "It's part of being British that we pull through."

Among his collection is a coat printed with a "patchwork of memories"- souvenir Polaroids and backstage shots.

Kane however transcended this nostalgic framing to so much more character in the runway. With greasy hair and the least redeemable footwear (as fashion sees it), his collection might be a bit different from the rest. In fact, as Kane would put it, his was "radical, sexy, a real predator."

The runway collaboration between Kane and Crocs was unprecedented. It has even become a style joke among many. For whatever it's worth, Crocs was revolutionized and redeemed to higher levels-- certainly remaining both a wonder and an aspiration to other brands.
