Are The Roads To The Hardwood Miami Heat Closed For Chris Bosh?

Last Friday, Miami Heat announced that Chris Bosh failed his physical, hence, is not cleared to participate in Miami Heat's training camp.

Chris Bosh was recently subjected to a series of medical tests. The results still apparently did not convince Miami that he is fit to play. This situation will certainly be a big challenge to the team's highest-paid player.

Bosh's medical state is "believed to be related to a previous blood clot."

"The Miami Heat and Chris Bosh, in consultation with team doctors and other physicians, have been working together for many months with the mutual goal of having Chris return to the court as soon as possible," confirmed by Miami Heat

"Chris has now taken his preseason physical. The Miami Heat regret that it remains unable to clear Chris to return to basketball activities, and there is no timetable for his return."

The $118.7 million contract of five years as signed by Bosh in 2014 is covered by insurance.

Heat Hoops, the team's official blog, detailed how the insurance of the contract is applied. Specifically, if Bosh misses an entire season, 2016-2017 season, the team will be under responsibility of about %11.5 million of the total $23.7 million Bosh is due this season - the amount remaining will be covered by the insurance. In total, Bosh is still entitled $75.8 million.

If Bosh will be forced to retire, his contract will no longer count against the team's cap. Miami is running at $94.1 million cap as of the moment. The team's total payroll is at $103.8 million. Discounting Bosh's salary, the team's cap drops to $80.1 million.

There is no confirmation whether Bosh is still taking blood thinners. Bosh confirmed that his therapy is similar to N.H.L. player Tomas Fleischmann who was allowed to play for a season while taking blood thinners, which can be a bit risky for athletes.

Bosh first encountered the clot on February last year. The clot was said to have developed in one of his legs and traveled to the lungs. This caused health problems in which Bosh had to be admitted in the hospital for days. Bosh recovered with an average of 19.1 points last season.
