Samsung And Apple's Rival Could Unveil It's First In-screen Fingerprint Sensor Smartphone

In a recent news, a short video clip revealed a Vivo smartphone with an on-screen fingerprint sensor, however, the authenticity of that video is still uncertain. Now, the company has launched an official teaser that hints at the feature. The company has started to tease the smartphone on its social media channels ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Shanghai. The event is set to take place on June 28.

Interestingly, Vivo wants to "unlock the future," and the teaser image shows what appears to be a display pierced by a shape similar to a fingerprint. According to a source, Vivo could be the one pioneering an on-screen fingerprint scanner in a smartphone. A China-based renowned mobile phone researcher, Pan Jiutang posted a video on Weibo showing the on-screen fingerprint scanning feature of an unknown Vivo smartphone prototype. The leaked phone's design is the same to the Vivo X9 Plus without a dedicated home button.

Reports have also suggested that Apple and Samsung have been unable to embed the fingerprint sensor into the display and will instead move the sensor to the reverse of their respective phones.  Ultimately, it appears that Vivo might just beat Apple and Samsung in the next-generation fingerprint scanner race. Reports claim that Apple is working on the next iPhone with an OLED display which has a fingerprint reader placed inside the display panel. The new design might drop the Home button with a Touch ID built-in. iPhone 8 smartphones have been tipped to face delayed shipments as the company is still contemplating the manner in which the sensor should be introduced. While Samsung is said to have ditched plans for the feature altogether on the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.
