Second-gen Nexus 7 to debut at Computex?

Rumors surrounding the second-gen Nexus 7 from Google have been floating around for a while now. Fans who await the next-gen variant of the ASUS-made budget tablet are in for some good news as analysts forecast that the company will launch the refreshed Nexus 7 at the Computex trade fair this week.

According to an IBNLive report, "Those waiting for a refresh of the Nexus line of tablets could be in for some great news in the coming week. Analysts expect Asus to launch a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet at the Computex trade fair which will be held from June 4 to 8, 2013 in Taipei."

The report cites CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets analyst Chitra Gopal, who believes that the affordable second-gen Nexus 7, along with more budget tablets from Acer and ASUS, would be targeted at emerging markets. The second-gen Nexus 7 would allegedly sport a lower price tag than the current-gen version.

"Apart from the refreshed Nexus, Taiwanese computer makers Acer and Asus are expected to showcase new low-end tablets running on Android. According to Chitra Gopal, an analyst with CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, these low-end tablets possibly targeted at emerging markets, could be priced between $100 and $150 (approx between Rs 5500 and Rs 8500). The analyst also noted that the new tablets could be running on MediaTek chipsets," notes IBNLive.

Earlier in May (prior to the Google I/O 2013), yet another analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo of KGI Securities had disclosed the specifications of the impending second-gen Nexus 7 via a research note.

Per Kuo, the "new Nexus 7" tablet would feature a 7-inch LTPS display with 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) resolution. Under the hood, it would house a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The second-gen Nexus 7 was also speculated to feature a 5-megapixel primary camera and a HD front-facing camera. The tablet Kuo believed would be Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC enable and would pack in a 4,000 mAh battery with Qi wireless charging support. The tablet would come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Kuo had also hinted in his note that Google would sell the tablet at cost price, losing$5 to $10 on each device.

We had recently reported that the second-gen Nexus 7 would hit the shelves in July, with shipments beginning in Q2 2013. Moreover, it has been suggested that the second-gen Nexus 7 will "feature a 7-inch low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) panel, produced mainly by AU Optronics (AUO)."

Whether the second-gen Nexus 7 indeed makes an appearance at the Computex or does a repeat pf the Google I/O is anybody's guess.
