Sony Xperia Z now getting Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update

When launching its waterproof and dust resistant Xperia Z smartphone earlier this year, Sony promised consumers that it would push out the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the device soon. True to its word, Sony is now rolling out the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update for Xperia Z owners.

The update for the Xperia Z may have come six months after the smartphone made its debut at the International CES in January, but better late than never! Just a few days ago its bigger sibling Xperia ZL got the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and now Xperia Z has followed suit.

The software update is an over-the-air (OTA) one, but you also have the option to update your handset by flashing Sony's PC Companion software manually. Per reports, the update is rolling out around the world. The update is already available in Spain and Ukraine for the LTE-variants of the smartphone.

While Sony is yet to put up information pertaining to the update on its official website; however, XperiaBlog reveals that the firmware version 10.3.A.0.423 is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

"We understand that the generic update is out in Spain and the Ukraine for the LTE model (C6603). Carrier customized versions are also out in Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. A generic Taiwan update is also out for the HSPA+ version (C6602)," notes the XperiaBlog.

Fans of the Xperia Z in the U.S., however, are still waiting for the smartphone to make its way to carriers. While the Sony Store offers the Xperia Z for $569.99, the smartphone is not available at subsidized rates from U.S. carriers. However, all that may change next month as rumors are rife that T-Mobile will offer the Xperia Z by July 15.

Chances are that the Xperia Z may already tout Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean when it makes its way to T-Mobile's customers.
