'Bioshock' Movie in the Making! Netflix and Take-Two Interactive Software Collaborates

Netflix is in the process of making the "BioShock" movie adaptation.

As part of a collaboration with Take-Two Interactive Software, Netflix is adapting the video game "BioShock" into a movie.

An adaptation of the popular video game franchise will be made into a live-action film by Netflix in collaboration with Take-2K Two's label. Vertigo Entertainment and 2K will produce the film.

It's been a decade since Ken Levine personally put a stop to Gore Verbinski's grand ambitions on a "BioShock" movie adaptation; however, the wheels are turning once more.

Netflix announced today (Feb.16) that they will "produce a film adaptation of the renowned video game franchise" and added that they are partnering with Take-Two Interactive.

Netflix Film and TV Series Adaptations

According to VentureBeat, "BioShock" movie adaptation comes from the plethora of other video games being adapted into films due to its dedicated following among video game enthusiasts.

As of now, it is the latest videogame-related property to make its way to Hollywood, following in the footsteps of "Uncharted," "Assassin's Creed," "Mortal Kombat," "Tomb Raider," "Resident Evil," "Pokemon," "Silent Hill," and countless other franchises.

Netflix is also where viewers can watch "Arcane," a series based on the "League of Legends" video game.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that Netflix is one of the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in the entertainment industry today. He then added that Take-Two and Netflix share a similar vision and commitment to the BioShock franchise, which is adored by its fans all over the world.

According to PC Gamer, he also stated that 2K's Cloud Chamber studio is deep in active development on the next iteration of the series, and coupled with our partnership with Netflix, we remain highly confident that BioShock will continue to captivate and engage audiences like never before."

The arrangement between Netflix and Take-Two has been in the works for about a year. However, no writer or director has yet been signed on to work on the project at this time. It is also unknown whether or not Levine, the creative director behind "BioShock" and its sequel "BioShock Infinite," will be engaged in the project.

The specifics of which element of the series is being converted were not made public either. Consider the possibilities: it could be a remake of the original game, a prequel/sequel, a tie-in to BioShock Infinite, or the new game.

The possibilities of what the film would be are endless since there has been no official news about its story. There is also a possibility of adapting the new game since "BioShock" 4 is currently in development at 2K.
