'Back 4 Blood' Expansion: 'Tunnels of Terror' Release Date and More!

Turtle Rock Studios recently revealed that the successor to the legacy of Valve's "Left 4 Dead" franchise would be having its first major downloadable content (DLC) on April 12.

The DLC, "Tunnels of Terror," can be acquired by getting the "Back 4 Blood: Ultimate Edition," "Back 4 Blood: Deluxe Edition," "Black 4 Blood Annual Pass," or via standalone purchase, according to the studio's release.

'Tunnels of Terror' Details

The Tunnels of Terror DLC consists of the new Ridden Hives, a new player vs environment (PVE) co-op activity, new playable Cleaners and Ridden variants, character and weapon skins, and other new content.

The new Ridden Hives co-op activity has players explore seven different dungeons filled with labyrinth-like tunnels below Evensburgh, home to a new playable Ridden type: the Warped Ridden. This new enemy type consists of the Urchins, Shredders and Rippers.

Players will have to outmaneuver and overcome these Warped Ridden to get loot and rewards only offered in the Ridden Hives.

Turtle Rock has yet to reveal the Shredders' and Rippers' abilities, but the Urchins are said to be equipped with landmines that they can set on the map. These new Ridden will also be playable in Swarm mode.

The DLC will also add two new playable Cleaners in the game - the axe-wielding firefighter, Sharice, and Heng, a no-nonsense restauranteur.

Turtle Rock also confirmed that new 12 weapon skins, eight exclusive character outfits, seven legendary weapons, and over 15 cards would be added to the game through the DLC, per a GamesRadar article.

Finally, the Tunnels of Terror DLC will come with the No Hope difficulty setting for free to add an "extra level of challenge for elite players."

Pricing, Limitations and Microtransactions

Although Turtle Rock has yet to give exact pricing for the DLC, it did confirm that the DLC will be accessible to all party members as long as one player in that party has purchased the DLC.

The studio also added that the DLC will not come with any additional microtransactions of any kind, cosmetic or otherwise, nor will any of the game's future content updates.

The DLC is also Turtle Rock's way of celebrating the fact that "Back 4 Blood" is 2021's best-selling new intellectual property for consoles and that over 10 million players have played "Back 4 Blood" since its launch on October 12, 2021.

According to Turtle Rock Studios President and General manager, Steve Goldstein, the achievement is "a historic event for [Turtle Rock Studios] and [Back 4 Blood], adding that they're excited to keep the momentum going with the Tunnels of Terror DLC.

A GameSpot article noted that "Back 4 Blood" hasn't necessarily sold that many copies as the game is available through Xbox Game Pass. However, it did mention that 10 million is sitll a big number.
