Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and new HTC Sense arrive on HTC Butterfly in Taiwan

The HTC Butterfly is reportedly getting Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5 in Taiwan as we speak.

HTC One was the first HTC device to get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software update, but a recent report now points to the HTC Butterfly for the same treatment.

The HTC Butterfly made its debut in Russia and some Asian countries in the second half of 2012. The handset is also known as the HTC Droid DNA in the U.S., carrying Verizon branding. The smartphone comes packed with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, but owners of the device are waiting to get a taste of the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

"Users of the Taiwanese Droid DNA variant, the HTC Butterfly, can now download a Sense 5 flavored Android 4.2.2 update, delivered in two packages: one to prep the system, and one to actually upgrade the device," states an Engadget report.

There are only a handful of smartphones which are currently running on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and HTC Butterfly customers in Taiwan may find themselves fortunate enough to get the software update. HTC, meanwhile, has started rolling out the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update to some select international variants of the HTC One. However, individual carriers in the U.S. are still to release the software update for their version of the HTC One.

At the time of launch, the HTC Butterfly was the second smartphone in the world to feature a 1080p display, after Oppo's Find 5. The handset sports 5-inch Super LCD 3 display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). A quad-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor powers the handset. The smartphone also packs an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing one. Other specs include 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while a powerful 2,020 mAh battery fuels the handset.

With Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rolled out in Taiwan, users in other regions are hoping to get the software update as soon as possible. There is no word on when the U.S. variant, the HTC Droid DNA, will receive the software update. Verizon is known for delaying updates for its handsets and has yet to make an announcement regarding its HTC Droid DNA.
