Google gives Motorola $500 million budget for Moto X marketing

Now that Google owns Motorola it wants to ensure the Moto X is a huge success and it reportedly gave Motorola a $500 million marketing budget.

Apple and Samsung spend millions of dollars marketing their smartphones and tablets and the expense has definitely paid off for the companies. The marketing of a new device can be critical in terms of how well it is recognized, received, and, most importantly, sold.

Google is on the same level financially as Apple and Samsung and it plans to put its money where its mouth is when it comes to Motorola, the mobile company it acquired last year. The Wall Street Journal claims that Google plans on giving Motorola a marketing budget of $500 million or more to market the Moto X. According to the publication, "people familiar with the matter" have revealed that Google is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that the Moto X is a success. The first step in doing so will be a solid marketing for the smartphone in the U.S. and other markets.

This new marketing budget has allegedly helped the smartphone maker secure a simultaneous launch on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. This is the reason why Apple and Samsung are able to secure the same deal of having a new iPhone and Galaxy S smartphone launch on all four major carriers in the U.S. The publication's sources further claim that the company has convinced all of its carrier partners to minimize carrier specific applications, which many consumers feel are bloatware that adds no value to the device and takes up storage space.

The latest rumors claim the Moto X will feature a 4.3 to 4.7-inch 720p display, run stock Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, pack a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, include 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a 10-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The smartphone will also be user customizable when ordered through Motorola and will allow buyers to choose the device's back plate and engrave its case.

The publication claims the Moto X will be available "this fall" and will sport a price tag similar to that of the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4, and HTC One.
