Christina Ricci to Make 'Addams Family' Return Thanks to Tim Burton's Netflix Series, 'Wednesday'

Christina Ricci, who famously portrayed Wednesday Addams in two movies on "The Addams Family," is set to join the cast of the Netflix series "Wednesday."

The series is to be directed by Tim Burton, who Ricci worked with in another film, "Sleepy Hollow."

She joins a cast that already includes Jenna Ortega, who will play the titular character, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, and more. There is no premiere date available as of writing for "Wednesday."

Christina Ricci is returning to the world of the "The Addams Family" as it has been announced that the actress has joined the cast of Netflix series "Wednesday." The series is set to be directed by Tim Burton.

The news has been confirmed by Netflix on Twitter. You can view the tweet below:

 According to a report by Gizmodo, it is still unknown as of press time what character Ricci will be playing. Unfortunately for those who enjoyed her performance as Wednesday Addams in the 1990s, it will definitely not be her as she will be portryaed by Jenna Ortega.

What the Gizmodo report confirms is that Ricci will be a series regular for "Wednesday." It has also been reported that she has been filming on location in Romania already.

'Wednesday,' the Netflix Series

"Wednesday," as its name suggests, is a Netflix series that will focus on Wednesday Addams. Specifically, Wednesday will be in high school in the series. The story will follow Wednesday's attempt to master her psychic abilities as well as solve a 25-year-old mystery that has been affected the Addams.

Aside from Jenna Ortega, the Netflix series also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday's parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, respectively. Issac Ordonez is set to play Wednesday's brother, Pusgley Addams.

Other members of the cast include Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Tommie Earl Jenkins, William Houston, and more.

As of press time, "Wednesday" has no premiere date.

Christina Ricci's Wednesday Addams

Christina Ricci first portrayed Wednesday Addams in 1991 for the film "The Addams Family." Included in the cast for the film were Anjelica Huston and the late Raul Julia, who played Morticia and Gomez Addams, respectively.

Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester, was also part of the cast, as well as Jimmy Workman, who took on the role of Pugsley.

"The Addams Family" was named Best Horror Film of the Year by the Horror Hall of Fame. The movie also earned Anjelica Huston a Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy nomination at the Golden Globes. 

Ricci reprised her role two years later for the sequel, "Addams Family Values." Huston, Julia, Lloyd, and Worman all returned to reprise their roles as well.
