While Canva makes graphic design a lot easier, there are still a few Canva tips and secrets that aren't obvious to new users but can save you hours of time if utilized regularly.

You Can Display Ruler on the Design Border

You may use a ruler around the border of your designs, which is a little-known Canva trick. When you enable rulers for your Canva Design, a ruler appears above and to the left of your image. These can be used to align items and create custom margins. You can add the ruler by clicking the file button (when viewing a design page) and then selecting the "show rulers" option from the drop down menu.

You Can Hyperlink Text for PDFs

When making your design with Canva, you may include hyperlinks to any text, image, element, or video when saved as a PDF.

Follow the steps below to add hyperlinks:

  • Create a new design or edit an existing one.

  • Select the element to which you wish to add a link by clicking it.

  • On the toolbar above the editor, click the Link button or the chain icon.

  • Enter the URL of the website.

  • Apply the changes.

You Can Filter Elements by Free/Pro Status

When searching on Canva's internal search engine, users may simply filter between element categories and formats. The filter makes it simple to sort by free or paid elements, making the site extremely user-friendly.

Create a Mood Board

Use a grid to create a simple and easy mood board with photographs, color swatches, and other visual elements. This practice will assist you in identifying a common color scheme or theme that you can subsequently apply to a project.

Add Depth to Your Images with a Drop Shadow

A drop shadow is a visual effect that makes items appear three-dimensional and "pop out" of the background. A duplicate of the text is created in an image editor, converted to black or gray, and then sent through the filter. To achieve the effect, the blurred result is aligned beneath the original text. You Can Blur Background of Photos

Adding a background blur to your images can help focus attention to a certain subject, such as a person in a portrait or an object in a still life, while also giving your image a professional look. This tutorial will show you how to blur the backdrop of your photos or particular areas of them.

Be Creative and Play With Symmetry

To correlate with other design aspects, use horizontal and vertical lines. Make sure the thickness of the parts matches the font weight for balance and proportion.

Don't Be Afraid To Trial & Error

Everyone makes errors, and they are sometimes the most valuable part of the learning process. Because the creative process is rarely complete, design is all about trial and error. Push your creations to the maximum. What you see doesn't appeal to you? The 'undo' button is usually a welcome companion.
