Ford F–150 Lightning Price Doubles in a Dealership — $69,000 Markup?

Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup price skyrockets to double its original cost after one of its dealerships placed a hefty markup on the in-demand EV.

It comes even as the giant American carmaker, Ford, has previously warned its dealership network against extreme price increases such as this.

Not to mention its CEO Jim Farley even plans on selling all of its EVs online.

The latest offering of Ford, its first-ever electric pickup truck, is taking the world by storm even before it starts delivering to its customers.

In fact, as per a news story by Electrek, the F-150 Lightning has already garnered a whopping 200,000 reservations. However, the giant automaker only plans to produce roughly 40,000 electric pickups for this year or in 2022.

So clearly, the supply of Lightning is far from its intense demand from the consumers.

It did not help that fans of the Ford pickup would have to wait until next year. It comes as the renowned carmaker is only ramping up the production of the F-150 Lightning in 2023, predicting an output of around 150,000 units.

By then, the deliveries still would not hold up to the bulk of Lightning reservations.

While the electric pickup only comes in limited units, the automaker has already begun its first batch of deliveries.

However, given the steep demand for the F-150 Lightning, Ford dealerships around the United States are taking advantage of the whole situation.

DAGENHAM, ENGLAND - JANUARY 13: A contractor works on the yet-to-be-completed engine production line at a Ford factory on January 13, 2015 in Dagenham, England.

According to a recent report by Teslarati, one of the dealerships did not hesitate to jack up the price of the all-new Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, which essentially more than doubled its total cost.

To be more precise, the Gary Smith Ford dealership in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, applies a hefty markup, dubbing it as "market adjustment."

The price markup of the Ford dealership has become the talk of the town in a dedicated F-150 Lightning Forum. One of its members, who goes by the username "RDeFran," shared a photo of the pricing breakdown.

The dealership was transparent enough to tell its customers that the price doubled due to its $69,554 market adjustment.

The price markup adds to the retail price of the Lightning, which is also at $69,554, and its $1,495 worth of accessories.

No thanks to the hefty market adjustment pricing, the total cost of the F-150 Lighting in this Ford dealership has reached a staggering $140,603.
