Good news for bargain hunters who are looking to purchase a tablet: Amazon has slashed the price of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD, offering a $40 discount on the device.
Amazon is now offering the 16GB model of the Kindle Fire HD for $159. This is the second price cut in barely two months, again sparking off speculations that the retailer is looking to clear out older inventory and a new tablet may be round the corner.
"With all of the newer, better, and cheaper tablets coming out, buying last year's hardware isn't ideal, but you can certainly save quite a penny. In this case, Amazon has slashed the 16GB Kindle Fire HD's $199USD price tag to just $159USD, probably in effort to make way for more Amazon-made tablets, but it's a deal nonetheless," reports Android Authority.
Earlier in July, we reported that Amazon had reduced the price of the 16GB variant of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD in both the UK and the U.S. and was offering the device for £139 (instead of £159) and $169 (instead of $199), respectively.
Amazon had also knocked off $30 on the 32GB variant of the Kindle Fire HD, which would have set consumers by £159 (instead of £179) and $199 (instead of $229) in the UK and U.S., respectively.
While market observers previously believed that Amazon's move to slash the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD's price was in response to Barnes & Nobles NOOK HD price cuts, speculations are now rife that Amazon is prepping to launch the Kindle Fire HD's successor soon.
The e-retailer is allegedly clearing out older inventory (as is the case when the next-gen variant is in the pipeline) to make way for the new Kindle Fire HD model. Several rumors have suggested that Amazon is looking to redesign its Kindle Fire lineup of devices and pack in some top-end features, so a strong possibility exists that the company plans to refresh its tablet lineup.
