Ford Recalls 49,000 Mustang Mach-E EVs, Halting Sales Deliveries As Well — Here’s Why

Ford Mustang Mach-E is now the center of the latest recall, affecting nearly 49,000 electric vehicles (EVs). The carmaker also postponed its sales and deliveries due to its potential battery issue.

Recalls have become a piece of common news for cars these days, but, in most cases, it is not as big as the Mach-E situation. Instead, it only affects a few hundred owners.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Recall

It is worth noting that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is not new to this. As per a news story by CNET, the renowned automaker recalled around 464 EVs, no thanks to a software mess.

Aside from that, the Mach-E also had some issues with the attachment of its windshields, prompting Ford to recall roughly 17,000 units in 2021.

This time, the giant automaker recalls thousands of its Mustang EVs. According to a recent report by Engadget, Ford also asked its dealership network to halt their Mach-E deliveries.

The American carmaker Ford recalls a total of 48,924 Mach E units. It is all due to a potential issue with the battery of these EVs.

CNET notes that the massive recall expands from the 2021 and 2202 models of the Mustang Mach-E. It includes vehicles that the Ford Cuautitlán factory in Mexico has produced from May 27, 2020, up until May 24, 2022.

HALEWOOD, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 18: President of Ford Europe Stuart Rowley poses with a Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle at the transmission assembly line at Ford Halewood after Ford announced a 230 GBP investment on October 18, 2021 in Halewood, England.

Engadget highlights that the move of Ford to recall thousands of its Mach-E electric crossover was a voluntary move.

In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does not have an open investigation regarding the potential battery overheating issue. So, it does appear that Ford learned about it among themselves.

But what could be the culprit for the latest Ford recall?

Ford Mach-E Recall: Here's Why

So far, the maker of the iconic Mustang nameplate suggests that the high-voltage battery connectors could potentially end up overheating.

The issue could likely confuse its owners why their Mach-E suddenly would not start.

What's worse, the potential overheating mess might also be a problem while the EV is strolling on the road. The battery issue could trigger the vehicle to lose its propulsion power even if it is running.

Ford Mach-E Battery Issue Fix

Ford owners need to wait until next month before the software update, which should fix the issue altogether, rolls out.

The automaker says that the solution to the potential issue is going to be released through an over-the-air software update.

But owners of the affected Ford Mach-E EVs could still opt to bring their vehicles to the nearest dealership of either Ford or its luxury brand, Lincoln, to install the new update.
