The Nintendo Switch version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, referred to as KOTOR II by fans, has a game-breaking bug that prevents players from progressing and finishing the game, and there's no word on when a patch will be released to fix it, according to IGN.

However, the studio confirmed that the game is currently bugged and cannot be completed on Nintendo Switch.

A User Reported the Bug

Daniel Moore, a Twitter user known as @Moo Resolutions, reported the bug to Aspyr Media before it became a known issue.

On Twitter, Aspyr stated that it is a known issue that will be rectified in the upcoming patch, but it did not provide an ETA.

What Is The Issue?

Late last week, Aspyr posted a statement on its support page stating that the company has received reports of a game crash after the Basilisk Crash cutscene after landing on Onderon. It's nearly halfway through the game, which is really concerning.

This Occurrence Raised Concerns

John Walker of Kotaku held that this bug raises some serious concerns regarding the game's quality assurance, as it could be certified and distributed in a form that is impossible to finish. Nintendo, as claimed by Walker, is renowned for being slow to release game patches, which will add to the time it takes for issues to be resolved. He added that there's also the matter of how long Aspyr has known about a game-breaking bug that affects all players but hasn't told potential and present consumers about it.

Popularity of KOTOR II

Meanwhile, CNET said that the game, which was first launched in 2004, was recently re-released on the Nintend's Switch. The 18-year-old original was essentially unmodified in the new edition of the game. However, despite the fact that KOTOR II is a nearly two-decade-old game, it's no surprise that older titles are being transferred to the Nintendo Switch, which has sold 107 million devices to date. CNET noted that Reggie Fils-Aimé, the previous president of Nintendo of America, can be credited with some of that success.

Aspyr is currently working on a PS5 and PC version of the original Knights of the Old Republic. This remake will necessitate essentially recreating the game from the ground up, considerably upgrading the aesthetics. In a separate CNET report, it was noted that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a role playing game that is set thousands of years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. As previously mentioned, the remake is being created by Aspyr but in association with Lucasfilm Games. We don't know what's in store for this game yet, but it's amazing to see one of the most beloved games in the Star Wars franchise making a comeback.
