Spotify Tests Podcast Creation Tool on its App — How Does it Work?

Spotify is testing its podcast creation tool, which allows its users to do all sorts of podcasting stuff like recording and editing, conveniently straight from its app.

It is worth noting that the music streaming service Spotify also owns the massive podcasting platform, Anchor. But the latter works separately from the streaming service, requiring users to download another app.

But this time, Spotify wants to bring podcast-creating tools as merely features on its main app.

Spotify Podcast Creation Tool

As per a news story by Tech Crunch, the new podcast-creating feature on the main app of Spotify first saw the light of day in New Zealand just last month or in June.

No less than the co-founder of Anchor, Michael Mignano, also an outgoing Spotify executive, tweeted about the arrival of the new podcasting features.

The Anchor co-founder said that Spotify users based in New Zealand could start crafting their podcast episodes straight from the main app of the streaming service.

Mignano highlights that the podcast creation tool requires "no extra tools or hardware."

Tech Crunch notes that Mignano started his stint in Spotify when the streaming giant went on to acquire the podcasting app Anchor back in 2019.

Apart from that, the Anchor co-founder also shared a teaser of the new podcast creation tool of Spotify, which gives us a glimpse of how the whole thing actually works.

Thus, even if the new feature has yet to reach the shores of other parts of the world other than New Zealand, we get the idea of how it works.

The official Twitter account of Spotify New Zealand shared the video. The tweet boasts that the podcasting tool allows users to share their ideas on the streaming service "in minutes," touting that it is pretty straightforward to use.

The video showed that the next-generation Spotify app includes a "+" button, which we typically see on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

The said button opens the podcast creation tool, giving its users an option to "Record Podcast."

And after the whole recording session, the podcasting tool brings its users to an editing portal. It lets them trim some embarrassing parts of it or spice it up with funky music.

Before sharing it to millions of listeners on Spotify, the creation tool asks a few more things to top it up, including its title and the eye-catching cover art.
