Updated Skull and Bones

Ubisoft is finally set to unveil a new look at Skull & Bones after years of delays. The first look at Ubisoft Forward Spotlight On Skull & Bones will give a thorough overview of the upcoming open world multiplayer pirate game inspired by the Indian Ocean during the Golden Age of Piracy. The event will be held on July 7 at 8:00 p.m. CEST and will be livestreamed by Ubisoft on YouTube or Twitch, according to Ubisoft spokesperson Youssef Maguid.

Let us briefly explain the background of Skull & Bones' troublesome development if you haven't been following it. The game's first release window was set for 2018. After that, the game was delayed until 2019, mid-2020, 2021, and finally its fiscal year of 2022-2033, as per Engadget report.

The game's creative director, Elisabeth Pellen, explained in 2020 that the delays were caused by a change of vision of the game.

The initial plan for the game is simple. Skull and Bones will adapt the sailing mechanics of video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's sailing mechanics, and all of the storylines and stealth elements that some players found off-putting will be removed.

Pellen stated that the company had higher aspirations for Skull & Bones, which inevitably meant more hurdles. The game had to be delayed as a result of these problems. Important issues were needed to be answered, including: How does Ubisoft produce fun and memorable moments in games? How does the company update the traditional pirate tale? How does Ubisoft make sure the experience is more visceral and immersive?

With these questions in mind, Pellen noted that the company will naturally need more development time in order to address the majority of these concerns.

Updates for Assassin's Creed

The Ubisoft spokesperson also announced that on Sept. 10 at 9:00 p.m. CEST, the Ubisoft Forward would return in full force to share updates and news on numerous titles and projects. Ubisoft Forward will be livestreamed on the company's official website, YouTube, Twitch.

In a separate report by Engadget, it was said that Ubisoft previously announced plans to disclose details about Assassin's Creed's future at a special event in September. Two Assassin's Creed projects are currently under development by Ubisoft: Rift, a standalone series of the franchise, and Infinity, a live multiplayer experience spanning various eras.

Engadget also reported that the company also looks after Far Cry, Rabbids, Beyond Good & Evil, Just Dance, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Rayman, and Prince of Persia in addition to Assassin's Creed. Since a few years ago, the original Prince of Persia has been remade at several Ubisoft studios. It is now being worked on in Montreal and is scheduled to release after April 2023.
