Verizon delays HTC One release again, now expected to launch in September

It looks like Verizon HTC One fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the smartphone. The carrier is now expected to launch the handset on September 5.

The HTC One has been one of the most popular smartphones to be released in 2013. AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have been offering the handset to their customers for months. Verizon reportedly passed on the HTC One at first, but its customers wanted the handset badly enough that the carrier gave in and announced it would offer the HTC One in the summer. The original launch date was expected to be August 1, but as we got closer to that date a leaked Verizon internal memo revealed that the carrier was now planning to launch the smartphone on August 15.

We reported a few days ago that a news came out that the HTC One's launch date had been delayed again. The smartphone was expected to launch on August 29 at the time. This date is also around the time Verizon is expected to launch the Moto X and begin shipping its new DROID family of smartphones. That busy timeframe would not necessarily the best time to also launch the HTC One.

It appears that Verizon will now launch the HTC One on September 5. The carrier just updated its site with a sign up page "to get the latest information about the HTC One on the Verizon Network." The image of the HTC One on the site shows its current date is September 5, leading many to believe this is in fact the smartphone's official launch date on Verizon.

While the HTC One is considered to be one of the best smartphones on the market, six months from its release is a long time to wait just to offer the exact same smartphone AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have been offering. It remains to be seen how sales of the Verizon HTC One will be, especially when it is being released after the highly anticipated Moto X, DROID ULTRA and DROID MAXX. It will soon have to also contend with the iPhone 5S as well, which is expected to be announced five days after the HTC One's new expected release date.
