Nokia to push out Amber update in late August, Lumia 920 first in queue

Good news for Nokia Lumia owners as the Amber software update is finally set to arrive by late August or early September, with the Lumia 920 set to get it first.

The latest information comes from Nokia's PR company who has disclosed the rollout deadline of the much-awaited update. After seeing unwarranted delays, te update is finally ready to reach devices.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, Nokia announced that the Amber-enabled Lumia 925 will be introduced for the Taiwanese market from Aug. 16. When asked about the software update hitting other Lumia smartphones, the Finnish company's PR hand revealed that the rollout will start in late August/ early September.

Moreover, there's good news for owners of the Lumia 920 as the smartphone is set to get top priority, with other Lumia handsets to follow suit.

"The first wave may be the first priority in Lumia 920, but after the rest of the WP8 Lumia models will another update that contains Lumia 820,720,620 and 520, but not necessarily in order," reads a rough translation of an ePrice report

So far, owners of the Nokia Lumia 925 have benefited from the features and tweaks which the hotly-anticipated Amber update is set to bring. Additionally, the Lumia 1020 cameraphone will also come pre-loaded with WP8 GDR2 and the Amber update.

Earlier in May, reports were rife that the Amber update would arrive in July. In end-June, a tweet from Nokia Spain disclosed that the update was set to arrive in August instead.

"The Amber update for Nokia Lumia range with WP8 arrive in August giving the same user experience as #Lumia925," tweeted Nokia Spain (translated) on June 28.

Nokia's Amber update builds on the GDR2 update from Microsoft and is a part of a series which has been planned for its Lumia smartphones. It is set to be made available to all Lumia WP8-powered handsets. However, not all smartphones in Lumia the series will be able to enjoy all of the features (the Lumia 620 will not get the FM radio as it doesn't support the hardware).

Nokia's Amber update will also bring features such as the Smart Camera app, Glance Screen, IS support for speeds up to 3200, faster burst shots, superior color etc. Some features that owners will look forward to include call blocking, flip to silence and stereo recording capabilities (which we recently reported the Lumia 920 was spotted running). Here's the complete changelog for the Amber update from Nokia.

With the Amber update gearing up for an end-August/ early September launch, it remains to be seen if the Lumia 920 is indeed the first Nokia smartphone the update is pushed out to.
