Smartphones - they're compact, techy, and handy. Once, they were just devices used for communication and taking notes on the go without the need for a pen. Now, they can be used to play video games, as a way to pay for items, and help people get around without getting lost in the process.
However, there are still people who believe that these nifty gadgets are frail and prone to damage, such as falling from a tabletop or being submerged in water because of an accident.
Apple recently proved to iPhone 13 users that they shouldn't worry about these things through a couple of videos showcasing the phone's durability against being dropped and splashed on with water.
Apple Shake And Edge Video Details
The Cupertino-based tech giant recently uploaded two videos that highlight how durable the iPhone 13 is when it was dropped from a tabletop and splashed on by water.
Let's start with the "Shake" video. Apple depicted how resistant to water the iPhone 13 is with the water splashes from a dog shaking itself dry after a drip from a swimming pool.
After being drenched in water, the iPhone's user then used the iPhone normally without patting it dry, with Apple displaying the catchphrase "Relax, it's iPhone."
However, the video did not display if the phone would work even after being submerged in pool water for some time, which could have been a bold move from Apple.
The other Apple video, "Edge," shows the iPhone 13's durability against drops from tabletops thanks to having an iPhone 13 being called on nonstop, causing it to vibrate until, because of said vibrations, it fell from the edge of a table.

However, the video didn't show the phone being used after the drop, nor did it show if it was still functioning, although Apple did display the catchphrase after the drop.
Can It Still Work Afterwards?

Apple mentioned in the specifications list of the iPhone 13 that the phone is equipped with a Ceramic Shield for its front while having a glass back and aluminum design for its rear, providing the iPhone 13's screen with a better drop performance than those without, per ZDNet.
Ceramic Shield is a technology developed by glassmaker Corning that uses a high-temperature crystallization process to allow nano-ceramic crystals to form in the glass, improving its toughness.
ZDNet also cited Allstate Protection's investigation that put the Ceramic Shield to the test using the iPhone 12 as a guinea pig.
Allstate Protection's study revealed that when the phone was dropped screen first on a rough sidewalk, the screen still cracks, but remains usable. This result makes the phone better than the iPhone 11 or the Samsung Galaxy S20 on similar tests.
Meanwhile, when the iPhone 12 is dropped on its back, the phone only gained minor scuffs but is still usable. Dropping it on its ide makes no notable difference apart from scuffing and sharp metal edges.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 13 is also rated IP68 under IEC standard 60529. This rating means that the device can still be usable after being splashed by water and after being submerged for 30 minutes in a 6-meter deep body of water.
Despite these specifications, it is still preferable to simply not drop the phone at all to get the most out of your phone.
