Minecraft Dev Mojang Bans NFTs, Blockchain

As per a news report by IGN, the developers of Minecraft clarifies that it does not allow or support the integration of NFTs in its gaming title.

So Mojang is essentially saying that it is banning NFTs from Minecraft.

The Minecraft dev wrote on its website that "blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications."

On top of that Mojang reminds us that it is also prohibited in the in-game content of the sandbox video game.

It includes "worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital assets," notes the Minecraft dev.

Why Minecraft Blocks NFTs

Mojang explains that blockchain technology and NFTs sway away from the values of Minecraft, which upholds "creative inclusion and playing together."

IGN notes in its report that some creators on Minecraft sell various items like skins using blockchain technology.

But the Minecraft dev argues that this brings both inclusion and scarcity, preventing other folks in the community from accessing these in-game items.

Besides going against the values of Minecraft, Mojang also cited a couple of security issues that NFT brings.

According to a recent report by Polygon, the Minecraft maker went on to highlight that there have been concerns regarding the integration of NFTs in the game, including numerous security issues and fraud sales.

The gaming firm believes its move to block NFTs seeks to provide its players a "safe and inclusive experience," it says on its official website.

The developer is well aware of these prevalent practices and has warned against them.

Mojang claims that these third-party NFTs might not be the most reliable, which, in turn, could end their players in fraudulent transactions.

The Minecraft maker also mentioned that these digital goods are likely to be sold at prices that Mojang believes to be manipulated to be expensive based on previous cases.

And what's more, Mojang reiterated that third-party NFTs carry some exclusivity and rarity as well, which is not parallel to the philosophy of Minecraft.

All that said, it is clear by now that the Minecraft maker is staying away from NFTs.
