Instagram Launches New Easy-To-Use Tools, Templates for Reels To Boost User Creativity

Creating Instagram reels with others has just become a lot easier.

Meta recently announced it had expanded Instagram's tools for creating reels with your favorite creators and friends to better compete with TikTok, per Engadget.

In addition to the new tools and features Instagram now has to make creating reels easier, Meta also allowed the app to turn all videos uploaded to Instagram into reels as long as they're short enough.

Instagram users looking to create collaborative content with their favorite content creators and/or friends can now have an easier time with the templates the app now has, per Meta.

Instagram now has a "Dual" feature wherein users can record their perspectives using their phone's front and back camera at the same time. Thanks to this feature, Instagram users can now record their reactions while seeing something for the first time without switching which camera they used.

Additionally, the app's new templates allow users to create reels by preloading audio and clip placeholders to add photos or video clips of their choosing.

These new templates can be found on the Reels tab by tapping the camera icon.

Aside from these two features, Instagram also introduces Remix for photos - a feature that allows people to add their video commentary to existing reels through a built-in green screen.

This green screen can be set vertically, horizontally, or vertical split-screen so users can still be seen while the content they were reacting on can still be viewed.

Instagram also has a new feature that allows users to post their clips containing their opinion after the reel they want to react to has played.

These two features are expected to come in the following weeks, but Instagram did not mention when they will be available specifically.

Last but not least is Instagram's new ability to turn newly-uploaded videos into reels automatically. Meta mentioned if a user creates a new video post shorter than 15 minutes, it will be automatically converted into an Instagram reel. Meanwhile, videos there were already uploaded before this feature's introduction will remain as videos.

Neither Meta nor Instagram disclosed if they will provide a way to turn videos uploaded to Instagram into reels in the future.

That aside, if a user's account is set to public, their videos (now reels) may be recommended and seen by more people on Instagram, similar to TikTok's algorithm. However, only videos under 90 seconds long would be guided by the platform to a wider audience.

On the other hand, Instagram won't recommend videos under 90 seconds from users that have set their account as private, though the videos will still appear to their friends.

Finally, videos and reels can be discovered under a single tab on a user's profile for user convenience.

Instagram Reel Monetization

Instagram's new features couldn't have come at a better time. The company has recently allowed content creators on Instagram to share subscriber-only feed posts that include reels, per Instagram head Adam Mosseri's official Twitter account.

Thanks to the new features, Instagram content creators can now create better reels more easily and lock them behind a paywall, wherein only people subscribed to that particular creator can see them.

Thanks to Instagram's recent monetization, content creators can charge fans up to $100 per month to access content exclusive to those who wish to subscribe to them, per a separate Engadget report.
