A Pac-Man Live Action Movie is Apparently in the Works

Bandai Namco will Create a Pac-Man Movie

A live-action Pac-Man movie is being created by Bandai Namco, according to The Hollywood Reporter as cited in Engadget. Reports says that the project will be produced by Wayfarer Studios, best known for its work on the 2019 film "Five Feet Apart."

Bandai Namco Entertainment is the company behind video games like Tekken and Galaga, as well as Wayfarer Studios, the production company founded by Justin Baldoni and Steve Sarowitz.

When it was first released in the United States in 1980, Pac-Man was originally known as Puck Man in Japan. It became a mainstay of coin-operated games. Pac-Man must consume pellets while being chased by vibrant ghosts in increasingly challenging mazes throughout the game.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Chuck Williams, the producer of "Sonic the Hedgehog," made the proposal for the movie.

There is currently no release date for the film, and Bandai Namco may decide not to continue with it. However, Williams' participation speaks volumes about the company's goals. After collecting $57 million at the domestic box office during its first weekend in 2020, "Sonic the Hedgehog" shattered the previous record for a US video game movie premiere.

The movie nonetheless managed to make $319 million despite the epidemic. With a $71 million US debut two years later, Sonic 2 broke the previous record established by its predecessor. It's obvious that Bandai Namco intends a similar result.

Bandai Namco Concluded Sunday's Tekken 7 Grand Finals with a Preview for a New Game

Bandai Namco ended Sunday's Tekken 7 grand finals at Evo 2022 by releasing what seemed to be a teaser for a new game which spectators expect as Tekken 8.

The Tekken team hasn't announced anything. The company showed a free update for Tekken 7 that promises balance tweaks, new tactics, and a trip to Amsterdam for the Tekken World Tour finals in 2019.

Then, a CG scene from Tekken's debut episode showed Kazuya Mishima throwing his father Heihachi over a cliff. The image then turned to a more realistic rendition of Kazuya, with his smile implying something different.

A brand-new Tekken, is unquestionably overdue. That new Tekken project may be a standalone Tekken Ball game or, as some have suggested, a kind of relaunch of the series considering the original Tekken conclusion Bandai Namco opted to display.

Tekken 7, the series' previous title, was first launched in 2015 and only available in arcades until being made available on consoles two years later. Bandai Namco added additional characters and stages to its fighting game throughout the course of four seasons, which culminated in March 2021 with the introduction of Lidia Sobieska, who seems to be the game's last DLC character.

According to series creator Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken 7 has sold more than 9 million copies so far, so a sequel makes a lot of sense.
