New Google Nexus 7 now available in Australia for $279

Good news for Australian fans of the new Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, as the device is now available for purchase in the country.

Google released the refreshed Nexus 7 on July 30 in the U.S. and disclosed that the tablet would hit other parts of the world soon. The tablet is set to hit the UK on Aug. 28 and is available for pre-order on retailers like Currys and PC World

Now Australian retailer Kogan is offering the new Nexus 7 tablet for AUD 279 and AUD 329 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively. By comparison, the tablets cost $229 and $269 for the 16GB and 32GB version in the U.S., respectively.

Even though the Australian retailer is offering a discount of $50 (16GB) and $60 (32GB) on the Wi-Fi versions of the tablet, it has set a limit of two tablets per customer to ensure that more customers can get their hands on the device.

Earlier in August, we reported that a local retailer PLE Computers had listed all three new Nexus 7 models and those interested could pre-order the ASUS-made tablet at a starting price of AUD 299. PLE Computers still has the device only up for pre-order for AUD 299 (16GB Wi-Fi), AUD 339 (32GB Wi-Fi) and AUD 439 (32GB Wi-Fi anf LTE). The retailer, however, has a "coming soon" status for the tablet and will ship it by late August.

Interestingly, the new Nexus 7 is still not available for purchase on the Google Play Store in Australia.

Kogan is shipping out the refreshed Nexus 7 to customers in one or two weeks and the tablet will come with a one-year warranty.

The new Nexus 7 is one of the most anticipated devices and features some notable improvements when compared to its predecessor. The second-gen Nexus 7 sports a 7.02-inch LCD HD display with a 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch (ppi), apparently the highest for a 7 incher. Under the hood, it houses a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The tablet also touts a 5-megapixel primary camera, something that was notably missing in the previous iteration.
