SAN FRANCISCO, CA - SEPTEMBER 07: Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller announces AirPods during a launch event on September 7, 2016 in San Francisco, California.

However, Kuo notes that the upcoming AirPods Pro 2, which might launch this 2022, might still go with the Lightning port for its charging case.

Apple AirPods USB-C Charging Case 2023 Release

The Apple AirPods charging still features a Lightning port, similar to what the iPhone currently supports.

However, these days the call for Apple to adopt a more widely used USB-C port has become stronger than ever.

In fact, regulators are looking to require the iPhone maker to ditch the Lightning port in favor of USB-C support.

If Apple starts including USB-C charging support for the iPhone and AirPods, its customers would no longer have to swap from two cables when charging their devices.

It comes as other Apple devices have already started featuring USB-C ports, such as the iPad and the MacBook. Not to mention that most gadgets these days readily support USB-C charging.

And it turns out that Apple is rumored to be working on the expanded adoption of USB-C charging for the cases of its next-generation AirPods wireless earbuds come 2023.

As per the news story by The Verge, Apple analyst Kuo predicts that the charging case of AirPods will start supporting USB-C chargers by next year.

Kuo says that the renowned tech giant is launching "USB-C capable charging cases" for all AirPods come 2023.

According to a recent report by WCCFTech, Kuo failed to clarify if Apple is going to sell its rumored USB-C charging case separately. If so, it should allow owners of older AirPods to purchase one to gain USB-C charging support.

However, it could also mean that Apple is only releasing the new charging case with the fresh pair of AirPods, which will debut by next year.

iPhone USB-C

The Verge further notes in its report that Kuo also previously teased that Apple is quietly gearing up to produce an iPhone that supports USB-C charging.

However, unlike the AirPods, the iPhone is less likely to bid farewell to the Lightning port by next year.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman also hints that Apple is already testing out an iPhone without the Lightning cable.

AirPods Pro 2 Still With Lightning Port?

Kuo also clarified in his recent tweet that the next-generation AirPods Pro 2, which is expected to debut late this year, is keeping the Lightning cable.

So, if you are looking forward to getting an AirPods, which supports USB-C charging, you will have to wait until next year.
