Truth Social, a social networking platform owned by Donald Trump, has experienced a significant increase in interest and new users after last week's widely reported FBI raid on the former president's Florida home.

What Happened on the FBI Raid

On Aug. 8, the FBI carried out a search warrant at Trump's Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida. This is part of a probe into how presidential documents, including confidential ones, may have been handled after being transported there.

According to CNN, there are two known ongoing investigations by the Justice Department concerning the former President. The first one focuses on the alleged attempt to "overturn" the 2020 election and Jan. 6, 2021. Meanwhile, the second is about the handling of confidential data.

The outlet said that a person familiar with the situation claimed the search got underway early on Monday and it looked like law enforcement officers were concentrating on the section of the club that houses Trump's offices and personal quarters.

The former president was said to be at Trump Tower in New York when the search warrant was executed in Florida. Trump verified that FBI agents were at Mar-a-Lago and claimed that they even broke into his safe.

Spike on Truth Social's Users

Less than 20,000 people downloaded the app between July 31 and Aug. 7. However, according to statistics provided to Gizmodo by market analytics firm data.ai, that figure increased to more than 100,000 downloads last week.

Specifically, Vice said that it was downloaded 107,500 times, or 13,400 times daily, on average.

Nevertheless, according to Data AI's statistics, Truth Social has now been downloaded close to 3 million times.

However, this is just a tiny portion of the users of popular social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and TikTok.

Trump Used His App to 'Rail Against' FBI

Vice reported that following the FBI search, Trump utilized the opportunity to criticize the organization, incite his fans, and spread QAnon adherents' conspiracies.

On the other hand, in an article he shared on Thursday, Trump implied that if he were to win the presidency again, he would exact "retribution" against those who had conducted the search.

Tech Issues of Truth Social

As we have previously reported in March, the hype train around Trump's Truth Social app appears to be falling apart after a promising launch.

Nearly a week after the app launch, millions or perhaps hundreds of thousands of potential Truth Social users are still in the "waitlist abyss."

On social media, this annoyance has been growing, and some users have already shown losing interest. Several people opened profiles as soon as Trump's social networking platform was made available, but they are still on the queue and showing no indications of moving ahead.

But these issues have been overcome now, especially that there has been a spike of new users in the app.
