The giant firm behind the PlayStation rival affirms that there are currently no plans to increase the suggested retail price in its recent statement.

Microsoft: Xbox Series X/S Prices Will Remain the Same

While Sony surprisingly dropped a new, more expensive pricing for the PS5 in select countries worldwide, Microsoft is not following the same route.

According to a recent report by IGN, none other than Microsoft has officially confirmed that its next-generation Xbox consoles are not seeing any price adjustments.

The renowned tech giant further assures its customers that the more-affordable console offering, Xbox Series S, is keeping its $299 price tag. The same could be said for the $499 Xbox Series X.

On top of that, the Xbox maker also stated that the suggested retail prices for its consoles are staying the same in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the rest of Europe.

Sony PS5 Price Increase

The speculation that Xbox would also be raising its retail pricing comes shortly after Sony has jacked up the cost of PS5 in various parts of the world.

As per a news story by Forbes, the Japanese console maker blamed various global economic issues for its decision to increase the prices of its sought-after PS5 console.

Sony justifies the surprise price hike, saying that "they are seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends."

The gaming giant further notes that these factors are "impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries."

In a photo taken on November 12, 2020, a gamer plays on the new Sony Playstation PS5 at his home in Seoul after Sony launched the new console in select markets around the world.

And as such, the Japan-based tech behemoth had to increase the suggested retail price of the PS5 in various markets, including Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Europe, and Canada.

It is worth noting that Sony spared the United States from its pricing adjustment.

But in other parts of the world, it has become pricier.

For instance, the PS5 Digital Edition now costs £389.99 in the UK, while the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive option retails for £479.99.

The rest of Europe also sees a price hike. The Digital Edition and disc drive options sell for €449.99 and €549.99, respectively.

Meanwhile, in Canada, the Blu-ray disc drive version now costs CAD $649.99, whereas the Digital Edition now carries a CAD $519.99 price tag.

With the recent price increase of the PS5, the Xbox Series X is now relatively cheaper than Sony's next-gen console. But with the economic uncertainties these days, we couldn't tell how long this could last.
