Princess Diana's Death Anniversary: What Transpired 25 Years Ago

Diana Frances Spencer married into the Royal Family on July 29, 1981, when she wed Prince Charles, the son of the reigning Queen Elizabeth in St. Paul's Cathedral. The marriage would produce two sons and heirs to the throne, but would not last a lifetime. Instead, Princess Diana and Prince Charles' divorce was finalized on August 28, 1996.

Despite being separated from Prince Charles, Princess Diana remained a celebrity, with hoards of paparazzi following her every move. It was an attempt to escape the flashing lights of photographers that took her life on August 31, 1997.

Princess Diana was on board a Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class along with her then lover, film producer Dodi Fayed, her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, and a driver named Henri Paul. Fayed and Paul both perished along with her on that fateful night of the accident in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. Princess Diana was taken to the La Pitie Salpetriere Hospital, but passed away as a result of the injuries she sustained in the deadly car crash, History.com reported.

In honor of Princess Diana's death anniversary, here are five documentaries that celebrate her wondrous life.
