5 PlayStation 2 Games That Deserve Remakes or Remasters

The PlayStation 2 era has its fair share of games that were truly enjoyable.

However, with the passage of time, some of those games are being forgotten as they are no longer accessible on modern-day consoles.

here are some of the games we wish were remastered or remade so we can play them on modern consoles and platforms.

Resident Evil: Outbreak Series

Capcom's Resident Evil: Outbreak series was way ahead of its time when it was released in March 2004 in North America, per the official Resident Evil website.

The game allowed players to control one of eight possible Raccoon City natives and help them escape the City or live to fight another day in five different scenarios, per Gamespot's review of the game. However, they have to do so before their character succumbs to the T-virus spreading within them or is taken by one of the monstrosities the T-Virus created during the Raccoon City Destruction Incident.

The game also has a multiplayer aspect, allowing four players to help each other out to escape Raccoon City online. However, when the game was released, high-speed broadband internet was still in its infancy. As such, time-limiting mechanics such as the virus gauge is necessary to keep playtime short.

With today's technology, a remake of the Outbreak series will allow players to properly explore Raccoon City again and have fun with three other friends, thanks to a stable internet connection.

Silent Hill 2

One of the masterpieces that define the horror genre of video games, Silent Hill 2 is one of the most asked-for remakes from the PS2 era, according to Game Rant.

The game's approach to depression and psychological horror, as well as its relatable characters, and various endings had endeared it to many players at the time, per CBR.

However, its control scheme is heavily criticized for being difficult. As such, a remake of the game can give Konami a chance to fix the problem and update the graphics to modern-day standards, allowing for a truly terrifying experience without the frustrating control scheme.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7

Dirge of Cerberus is one of the spin-offs Square Enix developed for Final Fantasy VII along with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Instead of controlling Cloud Strife, players will get to play as the gun-wielding Vincent Valentine after the events of the main game.

With Final Fantasy VII and even Crisis Core getting a remake, according to CNET, Dirge of Cerberus may be the next Final Fantasy VII spin-off game Square Enix will work on to bring to modern gamers.

The company has good reason to. Despite average to good reviews, many critics and players applaud the game's story, weapon customization system, and gameplay variety, per IGN.

Just like with Silent Hill 2, remaking Dirge of Cerberus allows Square Enix to fix the game's many faults, such as its camera and targeting system.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run

The Simpsons: Home Run is one of the few games about "The Simpsons" that are actually good. The game, which was released in 2003, is described as a satire of the Grand Theft Auto series. The game oozes influences from the popular video game series, from the minimap to its level structure, per Gamespot's review.

However, with its influences, the game still retains its identity as a "Simpsons" game. The game features many laugh-out-loud comic quips and scenes that make players laugh out loud, per Metacritic player reviews.

Imagine what the game would be like when it is remastered or remade.

.hack Infection

The original .hack video game is the"Sword Art Online" of the PS2 generation even before "Sword Art Online" even became a thing.

The game provides players a simulation of being in an MMO following a tragic turn of events, with the goal of finding out what really happened in the real world.

IGN and Gamespot took a shine to the game due to its many clever story twists, character design, and gameplay, despite its flaws, such as its camera manipulation.

Remastering or even remaking the game while fixing the game's many low points is a surefire way of providing modern-day gamers a taste of the classics.
