5,000 Games Have Been Certified as Steam Deck Compatible

Steam Deck users can now look forward to playing more games on the device.

Valve has recently announced it has certified 5,000 games as playable on Steam Deck, its handheld gaming console, with a promise to make more games playable on the device in the future.

Valve initially had more than 100 games playable on the Steam deck when it was released on Feb. 25, per IGN

Steam Deck Game Compatibility Number Details

Valve mentioned on the official Steam Deck Twitter page that it had passed another big milestone for the handheld gaming console - passing 5,000 "tested Verified and Playable" titles of Steam Deck.

A quick check on SteamDB revealed that 2,143 games are now "Steam Deck Verified," while 2,889 games were classified as "Steam Deck Playable."

As the classification suggests, "Steam Deck Playable" means that the game can be played on Steam Deck though some adjustments to the game may be needed, per the official Steam Deck website. Meanwhile, "Steam Deck Verified" games are those that are 100% compatible with the device and can be played immediately without any manual tweaks.

This count puts the exact number of playable games on Steam Deck at 5,032.

Recently verified games include Marvel Spider-Man Remastered, Elden Ring, Hitman III, Stray, Phasmophobia, and God of War.

However, Valve still has a long way to go before every game in its desktop roster is sorted based on its compatibility with Steam Deck.

To be specific, Valve has to sift through 100,806 more games before they can call it "mission accomplished." However, with more games on the way to the PC, the end is still very far away.

Fortunately, Engadget reports that many of the games labeled as "Unknown" can be played on Steam Deck without issue.

The "Unknown" classification means that Valve has yet to play test a game's compatibility with Steam Deck, while those that are listed as "Unsupported" means that they won't work properly on Steam Deck.

The publication also mentioned that 5,000 playable games on Steam Deck are more than enough to last someone a lifetime - a perfect way to pass the time while the other 100,806 games are being sorted.

If you're looking to play one of the most popular games on the device, Valve provided a list you can check on the official Steam Deck account.

How Does Valve Determine Steam Deck Compatibility?

Valve uses a four-point scale to check whether a particular game is Steam Deck compatible or not. First, it assesses whether a game has controller support.

Once that's done, it will look for any compatibility warnings. If the game requires a keyboard, the Steam Deck conveniently has an onscreen one to cover that base.

Next, it looks for support for the Steam Deck's 12899x800 resolution. Finally, Valve will check if the game has any issues with the Proton compatibility layer the company uses to run Windows games.
