Ubisoft Postpones Shutdown of Games Like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Ubisoft delays the decommissioning of its older games.

For one more month, Ubisoft will give its players more time to play and download their well-loved games like Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed, and more.

Ubisoft previously reported to its players that it would shut down a plethora of games on its platform on September 1, 2022.

However, the gaming company must have had a change of mind and announced to its players that they were postponing the shutdown.

Ubisoft Extends Decommissioning of Older Games

Ubisoft updated its players today that the intended shutdown of a few games on their platform will be moved to October 1, 2022, as opposed to the previous announcement of decommissioning them today, September 1.

According to IGN, Ubisoft has announced that it is canceling the online services for some of its older games. This enables the company to concentrate its resources on providing support for players who are participating in games that are either more recent or more widely played.

The company added that the massive player base was taken into consideration upon coming to the conclusion of discontinuing support for the affected games. Decommissioning older games is not something that Ubisoft takes lightly.

However, no matter how challenging, the company believes that this decision must be made because the technology that underpins those services is becoming obsolete.

Furthermore, according to Ubisoft, the single-player downloadable content (DLC) for a number of games that are played on PC will be downloadable for players before October 1.

It is recommended that players who own these games on PC activate their downloadable content after the decommissioning date in order to continue playing them after the service is discontinued.

These games include titles like Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed III (2012 release), and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

Ubisoft adds, "There will be no impact to the same single-player DLC on consoles, and you will continue to be able to download and play them after 1 October 2022."

All The Older Ubi Games to be Decommissioned

The delay in the decommissioning of these older titles allowed the company's teams more time to explore possible ways to reduce disruption, which resulted in the new shutdown date of September 1 to October 1.

The announcement stated that a specialized team would be working to improve the online services for Anno 2070. This would enable players to continue to take advantage of the game's online features.

On the other hand, Ubisoft's HTC Vive and Oculus Rift titles, called Space Junkies, will continue to be taken offline today as part of the decommissioning process.

Here is a comprehensive list of games that will soon be decommissioned from the platform, compiled by GameRant.
