PS5 Update: 1440p Support, Party Features, and More Roll Out Globally — Is VRR Included?

The most current update for Sony's PlayStation 5 provides additional capabilities, such as a party chat, gamelist, and support for 1440 resolution.

Sony Releases a Recent Update for PS5

The most current system update for the PlayStation 5 has been made available by Sony around the globe, and it includes a number of interesting advanced features, according to Engadget

Users now have the option of either the demanding 4K resolution, which might cause framerate drops, or the mediocre 1080p quality. Ths opportunity to choose is now possible thanks to the inclusion of the needed 1440p video output. Those with a PC monitor that supports 1440p QHD (2,560 x 1,440) will benefit most from this.

Sony recommends a 1440p/60Hz or 1440p/120Hz monitor or TV with a "Test 1440p Output" option that allows you to test your display, but negatively impacts the variable refresh rates (VRR) that synchronize game and monitor framerates.

Gamelists, which are basically game storage folders that handle up to 15 Gamelists and carry up to 100 games, either physical or digital media, are also included in this edition. At the same time, the ability to see new friends' profiles, get notifications to attend a game from within a party chat, and request a share screen from another party member were also made accessible.

In addition to delivering updates for the PS5, according to Hideaki Nishino, the Senior Vice President for Platform Experience (via PlayStation.Blog), Sony will also be releasing new features for the iOS and Android PS Apps this month of September.

Some of these capabilities include the ability to request a Share Screen session from a PS5 buddy and participate in a PS Remote Play Session via the app.

Newest Version of PlayStation 5 Now Uses Less Energy

The newest version of Sony's PlayStation 5 gaming console has had its internal components altered to use less electricity, according to The Verge.

As reported by the Euro Gamer, a YouTuber by the name of Austin Evans has taken a look inside the PlayStation 5's internals and discovered a considerable amount of adjustments made to the console. Evans saw modifications to the device's motherboard, cooling system, and solid-state drive casing (SSD).

Because Sony also launched a rebuilt model with a more compact heatsink, improved cooling methods have been employed more than once on the PlayStation 5, thus, this development is not something surprising.

As a result of Sony redesigning the motherboard and rearranging its components, the CMOS battery can now be found beneath the heatsink, so the console needs to be dismantled in order to repair the battery once needed.

Despite the fact that it is not immediately clear why Sony made this alteration, the content creator has a theory that Sony altered one specific component of the PS5's features so that it may distribute heat more effectively.

In addition, the solid-state drive (SSD) casing, which was formerly composed of printed circuit boards (PCBs), has also been modified in this most current version. Its chassis is now made up of only raw metal in its entirety.

With all the modifications, the current weight of the 2022 PlayStation 5 is roughly 2.5 pounds, approximately 0.5 pounds lighter than what was anticipated in the design of the system when it was first envisioned.
