IFA 2013: Acer to unveil 6-inch Liquid S2, the ‘first 4K recording smartphone’

Acer is set to introduce the Liquid S2, a 6-inch Full HD smartphone the company boasts is its "first 4K recording smartphone," at the IFA 2013.

Samsung's impending Galaxy Note 3, the successor to the Galaxy Note 2, is also rumored to tout 4K video recording capabilities. However, Acer has pipped Samsung in the race of 4K smartphones and is officially the first company to announce and Android-powered phablet with such capabilities.

"Following the recent successful launch of the Liquid E, Z and S series, Acer is now ushering in a different world of clarity with four times the resolution of full HD. This technology has been featured in some cameras already, but it's a completely new experience with smartphones running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor capable of recording in 4K," boasts Acer in the press release (via Engadget). "The real beauty of the smartphone is its iconic soft round curves and red elements for the receiver mesh and metallic ring highlighting the four LED ring flash for low light and macro capturing. The curved glass surface keeps a soft touch and 'edgeless' feeling around the rim."

The new Acer Liquid S2 will feature a 6-inch Full HD IPS screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device will have a pixel density of 368 ppi and will also come with Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Under the hood, the Liquid S2 will pack in the quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. It will also have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage (expandable up to 128GB). The device will also boast a 13-megapixel primary camera with with f2.2, 28mm lens, 4K Ultra HD video recording and BSI sensors, as well as up to 27-megapixel full panorama photo and LED ring flash.

It will also pack in camera capabilities such as Quick First Shot, Smart Best Shot, Tag Widget, Favorite Mode, Exposure Control, Freehand Capture and Live Screen. Additionally, the Liquid S2 will also sport a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with f2.2, 24mm lens, BSI sensor, 1080p video recording, as well as an 88-degree wide viewing angle.

The smartphone will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and will pack in a non-removable 3,300mAh battery and stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus sound.
