Gran Turismo Movie Cast Members And Production Team Details

The Hollywood Reporter mentioned in its reports that actors Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, and Orlando Bloom are confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming "Gran Turismo" movie.

You may be familiar with Harbour's recent appearance as James "Jim" Hopper in the popular Netflix sci-fi horror drama series "Stranger Things." Meanwhile, Madekwe is better known for his portrayal of Courfeyrac in the "Les Miserables" TV Mini-Series in 2019, per the actor's IMDb page.

According to the publication, Jason Hall and Zach Baylin of "American Sniper" and "King Richard" fame, respectively, will be providing the script for the movie. Meanwhile, Neill Blomkamp, best known for his directing work on sci-fi movies like "District 9" and "Elysium," will be directing the movie.

Additionally, PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti will be producing the film, while Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall will be the movie's executive producers.

The "Gran Turismo" movie is reportedly based on a true story that features the story of an unnamed teenage Gran Turismo player that eventually became an actual professional racecar driver.

In the movie, Madekwe will play the teenage Gran Turismo player, while Harbour will take the role of the retired driver who teaches the teenager how to drive in real life.

Meanwhile, Bloom will reportedly play a hungry marketing executive who is "selling the sport of motor racing... and just may believe in its art, too."

As such, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter's reports say that the movie can be best described as "the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale" of that teenage Gran Turismo player.

According to GTPlanet, the story sounds "uncannilly similar" to the story of FIA World Endurance Championship racecar driver Jann Mardenborough, who started as a Gran Turismo player to an actual racecar driver.

With the film's shooting beginning in Europe sometime next week, Sony is placing the movie's release date on Aug. 11, 2023.

What Is Gran Turismo?

Gran Turismo is a video game franchise developed by Polyphony Digital and Yamauchi and is exclusively published for the PlayStation consoles since 1997.

Back then, Yamauchi was heralded as the developer who "revolutonized" the racing-game genre through the authenticity and true-to-life graphics, physics technology, and attention to detail featured in Gran Turismo.

The franchise became so popular that Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan mentioned that a TV series dedicated to the Gran Turismo franchise is also in the works in late May.
