Meta Connect 2022: Mark Zuckerberg Announces Zoom, Microsoft Teams Integration to VR

Meta announces a range of new cutting-edge technology with professional integrations, updated interaction tolls, and control devices that facilitate collaboration in the workplace.

Engadget writes that Meta is making a big step to make its business more appealing by integrating Zoom and Microsoft teams with Quest Pro.

Meta Connect 2022 Kicks Off With Exciting Announcements

Metaverse CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed off the new technology the company is ready to offer the public, including a new Meta Quest Pro headset with Quest Pro Virtual Reality (VR).

"Meta Quest Pro is the first entry in our new high-end line of devices, and it's packed with innovative features," Zuckerberg says at the conference.

Meta Quest Pro is believed to have high-resolution sensors for mixed reality experience, crisp displays for sharp visuals, a sleeker design, and design innovations for avatars in VR.

Social Media Today reviews that Quest Pro, originally called "Project Cambria," is improved with 37% more pixels per inch and will make the VR experience more immersive and realistic.

This advancement will also come with a range of professional features, which will incorporate multi-screen display and workroom collaborations in VR and "Magic Rooms."

"Magic Rooms" are conference rooms that allow video participants to combine themselves in a virtual space, among other features.

Tech at Meta writes that Zuckerberg described the "Magic Rooms" will be suited for hybrid teams for people working in remote groups and could launch sometime in 2023.

Additionally, Meta unveils its new integrations with Zoom and Microsoft Teams, where people can hold meetings in the VR through VR Horizon Workrooms even from non-VR devices.

According to Engadget, the integration with Microsoft Teams will further let participants join more immersive meetings as part of a broader collaboration between Microsoft and Quest.

Meta Connect 2022 also saw the announcement of improved workroom features, which lets users add sticky notes to VR whiteboards, view 3D models as a team, and customize spaces.

Meta also says that the VR Horizon Rooms will adapt Zoom's breakout room feature, allowing teams to form smaller breakout groups with a large meeting.

The Future Of Technology Comes At A Price

While the integration of VR in most technologies seems like a valuable step toward the future, it will cost consumers a lot of money.

According to Social Media Today, after its launch at the Meta Connect 2022, Meta's Quest Pro is now on pre-sale at $1,499, relatively more expensive than the VR headset, which sells at $399.

Meta said that the challenges it faced with regard to the VR supply chain components and processes forced them to increase Quest's price by $100 per unit.

Tech Crunch believes that the high cost of the Quest products will not be realistic for the general public, but it will be for corporations as it is building "Meta Quest for Business" for next year.

Tech Crunch also says that Meta is developing Horizon Worlds on the Web, which will eventually be available on phones and laptops, and will allow visits to the world of VR.

With this, Meta is reportedly looking for more ways to get additional access points and interaction options for VR in various online spaces as part of a broader metaverse experience.

Zuckerberg hopes that this latest VR showcase will be able to change the market's negative reactions and perceptions of the metaverse, according to Tech at Meta.
