Banned on Twitch? Here's How To Appeal It and Get Your Account Back

As a way of making sure that social media platforms stay a safe environment as much as possible, there are community guidelines that must be followed. All major social media sites and apps have this and enforce them strictly.

If a user fails to do so, they may be suspended for a certain amount of time or banned indefinitely. Of course, it is extremely rare to be mistakenly banned for nothing. Most of the time, the account holder has done something that violated the rules that are imposed by the social media platform.

Twitch is among those platforms that strictly enforce its codes of conduct with streamers and viewers alike. If you feel like you're unjustly banned from Twitch, you may appeal it and get your account back.

Steps for the Appeal

The good news is, Twitch now has a new appeal system, according to DoteSports. It's a more efficient system for aiding users with banned or suspended accounts so they can appeal and retrieve their accounts as soon as possible.

  • First, you need to log in to Twitch's appeals portal through their website. In this step, you have to verify your contact information, which includes your username, email, and phone number.
  • After entering your information, the site will show which enforcements you have incurred. Select the violation you want to appeal.
  • Be sure to write down the reason for your appeal in the textbox, as this will be significant in expediting the process of lifting the ban or suspension of your account.
  • Once you submit your appeal, the portal will display its status. While your appeal is under review, it will remain "Pending" until Twitch makes a decision. You will receive an email notification in regard to the updates about your status. Once the review is complete, it will either say "Accepted" or "Rejected" where the status "Pending" used to be displayed.

Aside from indefinite bans, only enforcements within the 60-day window can be viewed and are eligible for appeals. This is Twitch's way to prevent spam and prioritize the review of more urgent cases.

How Do I Avoid Getting Banned or Suspended?

That's easy. Follow the rules. Twitch's community guidelines are quite standard, but it's still possible to overlook them.  Listed below are the rules you have to consider when interacting within the platform:

  • Don't break the law. If you post content that is directly breaking the law, encouraging, or offering it while using their services, you will be flagged.

  • Do the time and don't evade your suspension. You may not use other accounts or identities to circumvent your suspension. To avoid getting caught in trouble with other suspended users, do not feature or advertise their accounts.

  • Avoid self-destructive behavior. If you are streaming activities that endanger your life or encourage others to do the same, your account will be suspended or banned. You should in no way glorify or promote potentially harmful or fatal behaviors or activities.

  • Twitch has a zero-tolerance policy for violence and threats. Intimidating or threatening to harm, kill, or hack others will immediately result in indefinite suspension.

  • Harassment and discrimination are not only frowned upon but also prohibited within the Twitch community. Negative comments about gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or other sensitive topics will not be tolerated.

  • Impersonating an individual or organization will also get you banned.

  • Posting or relaying content that is spam, gore, violent, scam, malicious, or sexual in nature will not be ignored and will get you suspended as well.
