Razer Unveils Its ‘Ultimate Android Gaming Handheld’ — Here’s What You Need To Know

Razer has revealed an Android-powered tablet that promises to be the "ultimate android gaming handheld."

The popular computer peripheral developer has recently announced its Edge Android gaming handheld tablet, which promises gamers access to various gaming platforms, including Xbox and cloud gaming.

Razer's handheld is currently open for reservations exclusively in the US as of press time.

Razer Edge Specifications And Capabilities

According to Razer's official webpage for its Edge gaming handheld, the device comes in three variations: the Edge Wi-Fi, the Edge Founders Edition, and the Edge 5G.

All three have almost identical specifications, with the only difference being their connectivity capabilities and content.

All three variants come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and an internal storage capacity of 128GB, which can be augmented with a 2TB microSD card if needed.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset allegedly provides "unrivaled android gaming performance," per Game Rant.

They also have a 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz, allowing for some really smooth graphics display.

They all come with its Kishi Mobile Gaming Grip, which comes with two analog sticks, eight buttons, a D-pad, two triggers, bumpers, programmable buttons, and Razer's HyperSense haptics.

It is powered through a USB-C port found in the bottom right corner on the right side.

Additionally, all three variants come with game launchers like Epic, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and NVIDIA GeForceNow already pre-installed, though there is no mention if Steam will be joining the party, per PC Gamer.

Both the Edge Wi-Fi and Edge Founders edition have Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack through their controller. Meanwhile, the Edge 5G variant comes with these specifications with an added 5G, LTE, UMTS, and Global LTE connectivity through its eSIM and Sub 6 Antenna. It can also connect to LTE CAT 22.

Another difference the 5G variant has with the other two is its optimization for Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband, which will allegedly provide a reliable, low-log, and ultra-fast speed at home or on the go.

Lastly, the Founders edition comes with Razer's Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds, while the Wi-Fi and 5G variants are excluded from getting one.

Razer Edge Price And Availability

As with its specifications, the three variants also come with different prices, with the Edge Wi-Fi variant getting a price tag of $399.99. Meanwhile, the Edge Founders Edition is priced at $499.99.

Although Razer has yet to give a final MSRP for its Edge 5G variant, all three are available for pre-order or reservation at Razer's official website for $5.

Unfortunately, only those in the US can make a reservation/pre-order the device. However, even reservation slots are limited and are subject to availability. Razer reserves the right to cancel reservations after they were placed, but if it does, the $5 reservation price will be refunded to the original payment method used.

Additionally, the final product will only be available to ship in the US and the District of Columbia sometime in the first quarter of 2023.

On the other hand, reports mentioned that the Edge Wi-Fi variant is set to launch on Jan. 2023.
