The tech industry is inhabited by big names such as Google, Samsung, HP, and Apple, among others. Perhaps not many people in the U.S. are familiar with the brand Lenovo. But considering the partnerships that they had fostered through the years and their line of products, this company is pretty impressive.

Lenovo is a Chinese multinational technology company. They specialize in designing, manufacturing, and marketing electronics. Some of their best-known brands are the ThinkPad business line, the IdeaPad, Yoga, and Legion consumer lines of laptop computers.

From its humble beginning, Lenovo became one of the largest companies in the world in terms of PC manufacturing. In this article, we compile ten interesting facts about Lenovo.

1. Lenovo was Founded Almost Four Decades Ago

Lenovo is almost 40 years in the industry already. Liu Chuanzhi, together with a group of ten engineers, founded it on November 1, 1984 with just about $30,000 in capital. They initially had the rather unappealing name of New Technology Developer, Inc, which they decided to change.

2. Lenovo was Formerly Called Legend

Before Lenovo obtained its name today, it was formerly called Legend. The company changed its name from New Technology Developer, Inc to Legend after a few years since it was founded. In 2003 it changed its name again, this time to the name that it is known today. 

3. Lenovo Spent $30 Million on Rebranding in 2003

When it changed its name in 2003 from Legend to Lenovo, the company had to spend $30 million on rebranding. The new name came from "Le" from Legend and "Novo," a Latin term for new. So, the name Lenovo means "The New Legend," as per Android Authority.

4. Lenovo Acquired IBM PC Division in 2005

Lenovo purchased the IBM PC division in 2005 for $1.75 billion. Upon acquisition, Lenovo became the third-largest personal computer company in the world. This is one of the best deals Lenovo has ever entered.

5. Lenovo Adopted its Current Logo in 2015

To match the company's strong image, Lenovo decided to adopt a new logo in 2015. It was introduced together with a new slogan, "Innovation never stands still." The new logo, according to the company, represents "versatility" and a "customer-centric approach to technology."

6. Lenovo Released the Legend PC in 1990

Lenovo released its first Legend-branded personal computer in 1990. Chinese and Asian markets patronized the Legend PC. In addition, the Legend PC was endorsed by a government funding program known as Torch Program.
